Flosstradamus:High energy trap with Pigments 6
Flosstradamus, also known as Curt Cameruci, has spent two decades pioneering a bass-heavy combination of hip-hop. trap and EDM, earning a place as one of trap’s originators. From remixing club classics to shaping genre-defining anthems, his sound continues to evolve with new technology, while retaining its trademark hard-hitting energy.
We got to sit down with Flosstradamus in the studio to learn more about his career and creative process, alongside some trance-inspired trap production with Pigments 6.
From vinyl mashups to trap anthems
Born and raised in Chicago, Curt first discovered DJing when his brother picked up a set of pawn-shop turntables. Unable to skateboard one summer after an ACL injury, he decided to get into records, turntablism, and early sampling. This laid the ground for a dynamic sound and career that draws upon multiple sources of inspiration.
I used to BMX bike and skateboard… that summer I just started sampling records.
Influences like Beastie Boys and The Prodigy sparked an early interest in mixing obscure samples with heavy beats, evolving into a trademark blend of vocal hooks and EDM-fuelled trap experimentation.
Over the years, Flosstradamus has continually evolved with the times, whether exploring new DAWs or integrating AI-based tools, all in the pursuit of recreating the sounds in his head.
I'm always trying to evolve… I can't pinpoint one thing because I'm evolving just as much as the tech is evolving.
20 years, and counting
A career spanning 20 years has produced numerous fan-favorite releases. Standouts include the hard-hitting remix of Major Lazer’s “Original Don,” high-profile collaborations like “Mosh Pit,” “Soundclash,” and “Prison Riot,” and singles with Post Malone, Lil’ Jon, Waka Flocka Flame, and more. These tracks brought the rawness of hip-hop into the EDM world, pioneering a festival-ready version of trap that ignited dance floors worldwide.
A lot of the milestones in my career are show-based… I've played Coachella four times as Flosstradamus.
From coachella to lollapalooza
Few artists can claim multiple appearances at both Coachella and Lollapalooza, but Flosstradamus crossed those off his bucket list, and then some. Headlining Lollapalooza in his hometown was a personal milestone, especially given his early days as a local DJ on smaller stages.
I headlined Lollapalooza… brought out Chance the Rapper, Post Malone, D Wade… it was a really cool moment to headline in Chicago.
These festival sets underscore Flosstradamus’s passion for performance and the relevance of his sound to large-scale rigs. Whether dropping a surprise cameo or unleashing a high-octane remix, each show seamlessly blends fresh influences and techniques into the trap formula he helped define.
Enter Pigments 6
Flosstradamus has always leaned on technology to capture the ideas in his head quickly. Pigments 6 fits seamlessly into that workflow, combining multiple synthesis engines, visual modulation, and a powerful preset finder - all with minimal friction.
I've been using Arturia stuff since the early days… Pigment 6, the new one, it's so dope.
From designing vintage-sounding leads to layering modern digital textures, he’s discovered that Pigments 6 offers the versatility, speed, and deep sound design architecture his sound requires both on the road or in the studio.
Intuitive preset finder
Pigments 6’s preset finder gives Flosstradamus a direct line to the sounds he wants, as well as inspiring those he didn’t know he needed.
There's a new preset browser… you can go through certain packs… use this sound find button to find similar sounds.
By filtering for specific tags or pulling from new expansions, he can instantly locate a sonic starting point, then refine further without breaking the flow.
Sample & granular layering
A dedicated sample engine, complete with granular processing, lets Flosstradamus craft fresh, textured sounds under one roof. By combining these with Pigments’ other synth engines, he can create complex hybrid tones without stacking multiple plugins.
I use samples all the time… there's an internal sample in here as well as a granular synthesis sampler… I can even find an element, take little sections of it, and add a wavetable on top.
This layering approach reflects his roots in sample-based hip-hop and his ear for innovative and textured sound design.
Built-in vocoder & advanced effects
Among Pigments 6’s expanded effects is a built-in vocoder, letting him seamlessly weave vocal processing into any patch. This, alongside a range of new filters and modulation options, keeps the entire sound-design process centralized.
They just added a vocoder built into Pigments… now I can just stay within one synthesizer the whole time and actually just sound design everything within that.
For a producer who’s constantly balancing travel, collaboration, and creativity, fewer distractions mean faster results.
“I started on the Jupiter emulations back in the day… it was the only way for me to get that vintage sound without owning the hardware.”
A personal connection
Flosstradamus has been utilising Arturia since the early days of classic synth emulation and MIDI controllers. Today, Pigments 6 brings full multi-engine power to the table, merging both old and new synthesis paradigms - where modal, granular, analog, harmonic, wavetable and sampling meet under one roof.
After 20 years, he remains truer to his craft than ever: push sonic boundaries and never lose sight of that first spark that drove him to splice vinyl loops in a Chicago bedroom. Pigments 6 makes that process smoother than ever - enabling him to sift through thousands of presets, blend classic sounds with modern synthesis, and wrap it all up with powerful, built-in effects. This powerful, streamlined approach doesn’t just fuel his creativity; it ensures that every idea is captured and refined into a hard-hitting Flosstradamus flow.
